Job Description

Our Procurement team is growing and changing too, moving to a more proactive solutions-focused service to support the WMCA in delivering for the region.

Procurement plays a key role in the delivery of a wide variety projects in areas such as Midland Metro, Rail, Sprint, Communications and Professional Services – to name a few.

As Procurement Lead Officer (on this 12 month fixed term contract), you’ll lead and manage complex and strategic local procurement projects and ensure effective delivery in line with customer needs and timescales.

You’ll be part of a team of Procurement professionals raising the profile of procurement by increasing cross-functional teamwork, ensuring appropriate governance is in place and working with directorates to put appropriate procurement plans in place.

What will you be doing?

* Provide innovative strategic advice and develop and implement appropriate procurement sourcing strategies that align to business priorities

* Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with internal customers, key stakeholders, and public, private and third sector suppliers

* Raise the profile of procurement through the increase of cross-functional team working and networking with internal customers and stakeholders

* Support mobilisation post contract award by leading on specific contract management processes, supplier relationship management, ongoing performance management and specific contract implementation meetings and processes (including grant funding processes)

About you

You’ll be an experienced Procurement professional, who has demonstrable purchasing experience with the ability to develop procurement strategies.

We’re looking for a pro-active individual who knows how to get things done and works as part of a wider team. You’ll be experienced in end to end procurement practices and be able to work with your directorates to help them understand the importance of good procurement practice.

A confident communicator, with the ability to present information, proposals and ideas that engage the audience and clearly communicate the benefits of change.

You’ll have experience of using electronic tendering system and intermediate proficiency using Microsoft systems.
