Job Description
Our clients have been at the forefront of defendant law, delivering innovative, high quality legal services to their clients and now have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Manager. The firm has over 800 employees and is headquartered in Leeds, with eight additional offices across the UK, in London, Manchester, Evesham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Chelmsford.

The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the payroll department of the business. The duties include supervising payroll department employees, issuing employee pay, reconciling payroll transactions, managing the continual development of the payroll system / processes and ensuring compliance with all regulatory / statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Preparation of monthly payroll for c800 employees including management of payroll assistant to ensure all updates / amendments carried out accurately and payroll summaries / net pay schedules provided to Finance Director / Head of Financial Reporting to deadlines each month.

Act as point of contact assisting employees and answering any queries on their payroll amounts and positions

Completion of all monthly / annual statutory payroll data returns to HMRC, Pension companies etc.

Ensure all required legislation updates are applied and correctly administered as and when required (pension auto enrolment, NI/PAYE rate changes, minimum wage rates etc…)

Participate in regular review meetings with HR/Payroll to discuss processes / information provision and work together to develop and improve these moving forward.

To be considered for this role:

Strong experience of managing medium/ large size payroll including team management and system development / process improvement.

Experienced in working with software suppliers / developers to discuss system developments and agree solutions to improve processes.

Experience of working across multiple teams (Finance / HR) and managing relationships to develop processes between departments improving quality of transfer of information / increasing efficiency.

Sound knowledge of latest legislation (minimum pay, auto-enrolment, statutory returns etc.)

Demonstrates continuing development to keep up to date with changing statutory requirements

Carry out all aspects of a people management role to include performance management of individuals within the Team, conducting appraisals and having a focus and passion for regular individual and team coaching and development.

Excellent people skills with the ability to manage and improve other people’s performance and the ability to lead change and motivate others.
