Job Description
FINANCIAL CONTROLLER – ORIGEN DEVELOPMENTS

We’re dedicated to building outstanding spaces that reflect our clients’ needs by leveraging off their existing goals and aspirations. Our relationship with Fennies Day Nurseries has been nurtured for a number of years and we’ve worked alongside their educational team to develop a design feel that’s customary to their brand operations. This partnership has seen the construction of 5 new nurseries in the last 3 years and multiple contemporary renovations.

Our residential ventures include mix use schemes and entirely residential projects. Quality is central to everything we create, by combining meticulous project management with a focus on the finest details and hand-selected materials, we set a new standard for exceptional design.

The Role

A newly created role reporting to the senior Directors of the business, the role is ideal for an individual who is ambitious, passionate about their career and looking to join a company who is growing rapidly.

The role requires someone who can both deliver to deadlines and manage their own workload. They will also need to support the Financial Controller of Fennies Day Nurseries Ltd with various ad-hoc tasks and collaborate with the larger Fennies financial team.

The role will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for the following:

Monthly management accounts & reporting

Lead production of monthly management accounts to ensure that accurate information on Company performance is provided in a timely manner.

Ensure key ledger accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and variances investigated

Draft monthly Executive Summary, providing a meaningful and insightful analysis of performance, identifying key movements from business plan and present to CFO for review prior to submission to Origen Management team

Project delivery & cost reporting

Work closely with Project Delivery team (Project manager, QS etc) to monitor project costs, identify project excesses and savings and ensure projects are completed within budget

Preparation of monthly project cost and timings reports, project summaries and identify and develop new reporting / KPI’s as necessary

Control of site trackers – working with Project manager ensure updated construction programs are reflected on main site tracker. Highlight any movements / slippages and review with project team to bring back on track

Work closely with project delivery team to drive continuous improvement in both accounting processes, reporting and scheduling and internal cost controls. Ensure these procedures are documented and adhered to.

Business planning & forecasting

Assist FC with preparation of annual budget, ongoing forecasts and longer term business plans

Working closely with Expansion team, coordinate the monthly production of site trackers for pipeline sites to ensure business forecasts are prepared with the most upto date and accurate information. Challenge assumptions to minimise any variances / delays in project delivery management accounts and business forecasts.

Cashflow management

Support the CFO in managing working capital and preparation of weekly cashflows to ensure adequate provisioning, identifying liquidity pinch points and manage accordingly.

Working with the project delivery team liaise with Senior Debt providers to ensure drawdown of development facilities are carried out in a timely and seamless manner, whilst adhering to any facility covenants

Annual Financial Statements & Tax Computations

Manage the year end closing process and lead preparation of year end financials to trial balance, ensuring timely and accurate production of detailed working papers.

Assist Group FC with preparation of Statutory Accounts for Origen Developments

Other

Preparation of year end tax papers / workbooks and assist advisors with the preparation of computations

Ensure the timely and accurate submission of regulatory returns such as payroll returns, CITB annual returns, HMRC, Government National Statistics

Ad hoc support for wider Fennies operational and finance teams including development and roll out of reporting scorecards

Skills / experience

* Strong understanding of Construction / House building / Development with good VAT / CIS knowledge

* Ability to work collaboratively – working predominantly Origen Developments the candidate must also be prepared to work with the wider Fennies finance and operational teams

* Good / excellent excel & modelling skills

* Good, confident communicator (with small company exposure so comfortable with engaging with all levels of staff)

* Preferably qualified but will consider QBE / Finalist
