Job Description
PURPOSE OF ROLE

Responsible for the management of the Cash Office team and provision of a high quality financial service to the firm. The role requires a high level of attention to detail and ability to effectively manage various tasks and priorities for the team. To provide an effective business partnering service to Partners, Divisional Heads and Fee Earners in support of the Finance Manager. The role holder is expected to maintain the confidentiality of financial and other information gained when undertaking the role requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage the processing and recording of all financial transactions:

* Ensure appropriate checks and balances are in place to mitigate the risk of error and fraud.

* Work with the team to process all client matter transactions through the systems in a timely manner, ensuring correct authorisation and accurate input.

* Over-see and review all types of cashiering transactions to include but not limited to payments, receipts, billing, transfers, time transactions and queries to ensure accuracy and efficient processing within the team.

* Supervise the Legal Cashier team to achieve an accurate and timely month end closure.

* Assisting with review and identification of potential improvements and implementation of relevant operational processes and policies.

* Assist with the development and implementation of new procedures to enhance the workflow and efficiency of the team.

* Provide cover for tasks as and when required e.g. holiday, sickness, and high volume transactions such as billing at month end.

* Problem solving and efficient resolution of queries raised within the team and from the wider firm.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

* This role reports to the Finance Manager.

* Managerial responsibility for Cash office staff (presently 6).

* The role holder may from time to time have responsibility for contracted staff or others, as deemed appropriate.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

* Previous Supervision or Management experience, ideally within a Legal Cashier team

* Experience and in-depth knowledge of the legal sector SRA Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and basic VAT rules

* Possesses a breadth and depth of understanding of Legal Cashier duties

* Demonstrable exposure to working with a computerising accounting system

* Good IT skills – competent in Microsoft Excel

* Excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with senior financial and non-financial managers and staff

* Experience in delivering training to finance and non-finance staff
