Job Description
Overview

We have an opportunity for a Finance Manager, partnering with Kent County Council.

As our Finance manager for our Kent contract, you will be part of the contract Senior Management Team and take responsibility for the management accounts, cost allocation and tracking performance against target. This is a business partnering role in which you will work closely with the contract's commercial and operational leads, working together to identify and action process and behavioural based improvements which will have a positive impact from a financial perspective. You will have line management responsibility for one report.

Our Highways Maintenance contract with Kent County Council is worth c. £50m per annum. In this contract, Amey maintains all of the assets on the network from the soft estates at the side of the road (Grass, Trees, Hedge etc), drainage, litter picking, sign cleaning, road surface repairs, barrier maintenance, street lighting and incident response. The contract may undertake a few thousand jobs per month and whilst cost allocation is a detailed process it is generally carried out at a higher level than job level via bespoke systems.

We have three operational depots across Kent, with the main location being Aylesford (ME20 7BU). This is a hybrid role, which we envisage being office based 2 days per week on average.

What will this role involve?

Reporting to the Financial Controller and the Kent Account Director key duties include:

Preparation of month management accounts.
Responsible for cost allocation on the contract.
Completion of a monthly group reporting pack.
Preparation of business budgets and forecasts, managing actual performance against the latest budget/ forecast.
Management of the contract cash forecast.
Maintenance of a contracts risks and opportunity schedule.
Responsible for reporting Aged WIP and Balance Sheet reconciliations.
Liaison with internal and external auditors.
Responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of contract financial systems and processes and identifying any remedial action.What are we looking for?

Qualified accountant (preferably CIMA or ACCA).
Relevant industry experience preferred.
A self-starter although guidance and support will be provided.
Strong on systems particularly Excel and ideally SAP (being Amey's core finance system).
A strong communicator.
Business partnering skills. This role will form part of the contract SMT and will need to form solid working relationships with the commercial and operational leads.
Comfortable with analysing large volumes of data.In return:
