About the school

Haybrook College in Slough is an alternative provision and special school in Slough which educates young people aged 11 to 19 who have challenging and complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH) or medical needs. We have multiple provisions providing bespoke, child-centred and high quality education programmes, which aim to ensure that all the students individual educational needs are met. We offer provision for a range of students across KS3 to KS5, as a result of SEND, Managed Moves, Permanent Exclusions or out of area placements.

About the role

We want to hear from you if you are a committed, proactive and flexible Behaviour Support Worker or Learning Support Mentor who could make a difference to pupils’ lives and their experience of education, especially those who have become disengaged.  In this role you will have responsibility for supporting the pastoral and behavioural needs of Key Stage 3 pupils to enable them be ready for, and overcome barriers to learning. 

The Rotunda is Haybrook College’s Key Stage 3 provision located at Northampton Avenue, Slough SL1 3BW and offers:

*    HYPE (Helping Young People Engage) – a 12 week intervention programme which runs termly and is designed to support pupils to develop the self-management skills needed to successfully sustain their mainstream school place.  Pupils' barriers to learning are identified and supported through targeted interventions and the HYPE team work closely with pupils and mainstream schools to ensure their transition back to school is supported and successful. 

*    Interim Tuition – a short term provision for Key Stage 3 pupils who are newly arrived to the area; have been permanently excluded or at risk of permanent exclusion; are deemed “hard to place” or who need a short term placement for other reasons whilst an appropriate new school is found for them. 

Our ideal candidate will:

*    Have experience working with either small groups or 1:1 with students who may have complex social and emotional difficulties, may demonstrate challenging behaviour or who may have Special Educational Needs. This may be as a mentor, teaching assistant, youth worker or other support role.
*    Be able to mentor students with a confident and positive approach to motivate and engage them in their learning.
*    Be able to remain calm in challenging circumstances, providing a safe and positive learning environment and de-escalating any threatening or aggressive behaviour.
