Our Tax Service Line works with individuals, trustees, partnerships, sole traders, SMEs and large corporates in managing their tax affairs both on the compliance side and in relation to additional advisory matters. Our Lerwick Team are responsible for the preparation and submission of corporation and self-assessment tax returns for a broad range of clients based in Shetland and the mainland.

We also provide a number of additional services to our customers, including preparation of VAT returns, payroll processing and preparation of income and expenditure accounts.

About the role

Tax is a fact of life – it’s deducted from our wages, added to things we buy, paid by companies and rarely out of the news headlines these days. But a career in tax isn’t just about numbers. This role will suit someone who is looking for an environment where they will have opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in a creative, entrepreneurial and supportive team, working with lots of fantastic clients along the way. This is a varied role and you will be required to undertake a number of tasks working within the tax team under the supervision of the Associate Directors.

Responsibilities

* Preparing self assessment tax returns and VAT returns.

* Processing payroll using Sage Payroll software.

* Preparing Income and Expenditure accounts.

* Practicing the principles of excellent client service at all times.

* Ensuring assignments are undertaken in accordance with the pre-assignment instructions and to budget.

* Developing and maintaining an awareness of the firm’s specialist services and publications.

* Developing and maintaining technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses.

* Carrying out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the role and its grading, as requested by the line manager, Head of Department or Partner.

About the ideal candidate

As the ideal candidate, you will be an enthusiastic, self-motivated and adaptable individual with a good standard of education, specifically Higher or equivalent in Maths and English. The below competencies are essential for the role, whilst experience of a client or customer facing environment would be advantageous.
