Job Description
To support the Pay and Reward Specialist in providing a proactive Pay and Reward service to UKAEA including supporting the annual pay review, advising on pay policy and its application and ad hoc pay cases and supporting future changes to the pay and reward framework. The UKAEA is subject to public sector pay policy and has a recognised Trade Union for negotiation of pay and conditions.
The post holder will provide detailed reports on all aspects of pay and will provide first level advice and guidance to People Business Partners, Advisors and line managers on the application of UKAEA's pay policies. They will be expected to d understand and contribute to discussions about future overall pay policy to obtain and format relevant pay reports and will be expected to provide first drafts on smaller scale recommendations e.g. apprentice pay.
UKAEA is growing at a fast pace, and it is important that UKAEA remains competitive and able to retain and recruit talent to a wide range of posts within public sector pay policy.
High level of numeracy, accuracy and excel skills are required and an interest in pay and reward policies.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare people and financial reports for the annual pay award, pay modelling and compliance purposes any ad hoc repots as needed. Present the data in an easily understandable and logical way using diagrams, graphs etc.
* Check the quality and accuracy of the reports and take proactive steps to minimise errors and arrange for corrections.
* Develop pay modelling scenarios for the annual pay award to be presented to the senior executive team and the recognised trade union.
* Provide external pay benchmarking using available tools and other sources of benchmarking, advising on the reliability of the benchmark data.
* Promote awareness of UKAEA's benefits and total reward package including pensions, holidays, sick pay etc.
* Understand pay policies including shift pay, allowances, overtime arrangements, allowances etc. and interpret these to advise on pay and reward queries, referring to the Pay and Reward Specialist for support on complex cases.
* Work with colleagues in the People Department to ensure accuracy of pay calculations/letters before processing.
* Collate and provide first level of interpretation of pay data for wider pay and reward projects e.g. holiday pay, allowances reviews, gender pay gap reporting, equal pay audits.
* Provide recommendations on changes to pay for specific groups e.g. student placements, apprentices and graduates etc
* In all aspects of the job, have an awareness of equal pay issues, legislative and public sector pay changes and promote fair application of our policies
* Manage the interface with the UKAEA discounts scheme and employee benefits platform, ensuring promotion of benefits and reporting on usage.
Qualifications:
* Previous experience working within a Pay and Reward and/or Operational People/HR Operational function.
* Previous experience of preparing pay data reports e.g. gender pay gap.
* Excellent Excel skills.
* Experience working with numerical data
* CIPD Level 3/5 desirable but not essential. Support for People/HR qualifications may be provided.

* Very good attention to detail and ability to anticipate/ spot where data could be inaccurate.
* Ability to understand and interpret policies.
* Interest in the 'human' aspect of pay and reward and what motivates people at work.
* Able to balance the individual's needs on pay and reward and the organisation's needs to ensure fairness and apply consistent policies.
* Recognises the importance of promoting pay equality at work (gender, race etc).
