Commercial Accountant – FTC

Location: Flexible working available, where you will be based out of our Loughton or Sheffield office with home working available and some travel to other offices and sites

Business Area: Kier Places – Capital Projects – Commercial & Finance team

Contract & hours: Maternity Cover FTC, full time, Monday to Friday – We may be able to offer this role as either full time or part time – please specify in your application.

Kier Places are recruiting now for a Commercial Accountant to join our Capital Projects Commercial & Finance team in Sheffield to be responsible for the provision & interpretation of financial and management information, and to support & inform the local management team in the day-to-day management of the business. The Capital Projects team sits within the Housing Maintenance Business Unit, and look after a range of Capital and Cladding contract projects turning over circa £45m per annum.

Key Responsibilities
As a Commercial Accountant with Kier, you will act as the finance lead for Capital Projects & Cladding projects, undertaking responsibility for regional reporting, financial control, and business partnering activity, including the production of weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on trading performance, cost base analysis, and cash conversion; the control of balance sheet reconciliation process and contract assurance; and support Commercial teams In preparation of medium and long term finance forecasts.

Working collaboratively with business & management stakeholders, you'll assist the Contract Management team in the establishment of Operational & Commercial performance metrics and support the Commercial & Operational functions in understanding and challenging cost base; and provide guidance & best practise to the Finance, Commercial, and Administration teams.

What do we need from you?
Is this your opportunity for the taking? To be our Commercial Accountant, you'll hold a professional qualification in a relevant finance or accountancy subject (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA), with experience of operating in a property services or construction-related environment, as well as having the ability to deliver strong financial returns against challenging profit and cash targets, effectively communicate to engage with non-financial functions and influence change, and just as importantly, be able to gain wide business awareness, and be able to lead on both finance and non-finance matters.

The Capital Projects Team have a pipeline of opportunities to deliver recladding, refurbishment & decarbonisation projects to residential buildings. You will be working on a portfolio of projects predominantly involving the recladding of high-rise buildings, with turnover of circa £45m per annum, and of a construction nature. You will be joining a newly formed team specialising in this new workstream which has huge long-term growth opportunity, in which successful applicants will have a huge opportunity to grow and develop as this new workstream evolves.
