Job Description
Finance Manager

We are Athertons; a 42 year old Mechanical Electrical, Plumbing business with ambitious growth plans. Based in the Wirral, we will soon be moving premises to adapt to 30% growth in our workforce in the past 12 months. We will look to evolve through both strategic growth, mergers, acquisitions and partnerships. Our strategy is to buy and build. As we grow and diversify, creating jobs and opportunities for collaboration, our business also needs more financial management. This role is pivotal to the profitable growth of the organisation. There is scope for this candidate to grow considerably with the business or group of businesses. The candidate must be local to the area as it is an office-based job.

Essential:

The ideal Finance Manager will be responsible for working with senior management to develop financial strategies for the organisation. You are comfortable handling large amounts of data, acting as a business partner, decision maker, and providing regular financial reporting.

To undertake detailed financial modelling to facilitate business growth in line with the strategy of the Board.

A thorough understanding of construction related cashflow, reconciliations and forecasting is ideal.

A strong proactive approach to financial management.

Finance Manager Qualifications and experience

Finance or related field 5 – 7 years of relevant experience or relevant Accountancy / Financial qualifications.

Sage: Experience of Sage products and ability to analyse, interrogate and manage data to create business efficiencies and to foresee and mitigate challenges.

Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Detail-oriented and analytical.

Finance Manager Responsibilities

* Lead financial meetings

* Lead daily finance function. Complete financial accounting and forecasting

* Forecasting and scenario planning.

* Daily cashflow.

* Balance sheet reconciliations, variance and commentary.

* Monthly overhead and direct costs variance and commentary.

* Reduce debtor days and create profitable best practice and related paperwork.

* Changing payment terms, chasing payments and improving cashflow.

* Annual accounting audit.

* Working capital appraisal.

* Prepayments, accruals, retentions and applications.

* Liaise with third parties i.e. HMRC, bank, consultants etc.

* Optimising Capex / Opex costs.

* Produce Monthly customer costs analysis.

* Aid in production of 3-year business plan.

* Direct labour efficiency and sub-contract labour profitability and optimisation

* Overseeing the production of astute management information, and analysis to support the business

* Annual accounting audit.

* Liaise with third parties i.e. HMRC, bank, accountants, suppliers, consultants etc.

* Payroll, VAT, CIS, VAT reversal scheme, treasury reconciliation etc.

* Financial Process improvement.

* Set and monitor

* Create and oversee production of astute management information, produced weekly and monthly.

* Strategic and commercial reports for all departments.

* Produce weekly sales, trend, variance and productivity performance reports.

* Produce Weekly MI pack for board of directors; deliver reports and metrics to leadership

* Income stream performance. Project profitability. Pricing reviews.

* Increase supplier numbers and extended credit terms. Optimise supplier management.

* Budget planning and models.

* Weekly commercial performance analysis and GP income review

Multiple trends and variance analysis.

Oversee full company finance processes and procedures inc.

Produce and deal with monthly and year end accounts

Increase company credit rating.

Full balance sheet review and reconciliation.

Reduce bank, invoice finance and debt funding liability and monthly costs.

Optimising finance arrangements.

Help with making procurement more profitable.

Strengthen group stability and ‘investabiliy’.

Grant applications.

Helping to negotiate contracts and assessing affordability of office acquisitions for the business.

Help with tendering for new clients and creating best practice with documentation.

Arranging insurances and changes at renewals.

Nice to have:

Statutory accounts.

Due diligence on acquisitions and mergers and advice.
