Job Description
Role: Payroll Clerk
Contract: Fixed term until April 2023
Salary: £28 – 32,000 dependent on experience
Hybrid working: Home working 2 days and office based 3 days
We are working on behalf of our client who is seeking to recruit a skilled and experienced Payroll Clerk on a fixed term contract until April 2023. This role will report into the Payroll Team Leader to ensure payroll deadlines are adhered to efficiently. Working in a collaborative and fast paced payroll team of 8. Initially its a fixed contract to cover long term sick and increased workload, but could result in a permanent position for the successful candidate.
Role and responsibilities:
* As Payroll Advisor you will be responsible for processing corporate and casual employees payroll in a timely fashion on a monthly payroll by BACS
* Ensuring all payroll administration is completed accurately relating to bank details, tax codes, pension contributions, student loans, SSP/maternity/paternity pay
* Provide advise on complex payroll matters with particular focus on tax and national insurance
* Support and undertake all reconciliation activities associated with the above to include cross functional training and knowledge share across the payroll team
* Support with answering and monitoring queries from the payroll and pensions desk
* Undertake training to keep up to date with system developments and upgrade
* Support any system testing required to ensure operational changes are fit for purpose
* Handling all starters and leavers forms processing P45s and outstanding payments
* Running and checking of banking statements and payroll reports in Oracle
* Manually calculating of net to gross payments, SMP, SPP and SMP
* Dealing with queries from HMRC and other agencies as required
* Responsible for running and providing data and reports
Skills and experience required:
* Proven and demonstrable experience in a Payroll position is essential
* Ability to work in a fast paced and collaborative team environment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential
* Knowledge of financial and payroll legislation, regulatory bodies and procedures associated with HMRC, DWP, PAYE etc
* Demonstrable experience of reconciliation processes
* Excellent organisational skills demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail
* Customer focused demonstrating a sense of urgency in resolving issues
* Experience of working within a shared service environment beneficial
* Experience in using Oracle is very desirable
