Role & Responsibilities of the Finance Director:
* Responsible for the wider finance team, based at the Head Office in Leicester but work on a flexible basis. There will be 5 direct reports within the team.
* Maintain a high level of visibility and regular communication to both in the finance function and across the wider business
* Ensure that there are processes in place within the finance function to identify and develop high potential employees and to provide for succession planning for the key management positions in finance
* Play a key role in the Senior Management team and Board of Directors
* Work closely with the MD as part of the senior management team to plan, develop and implement business strategies which will grow the profitability of this successful business both organically and, where appropriate, by acquisition while maintaining its attractive return on capital characteristics.
* Support the achievement of the growth vision
* Be a key participant in major projects aligned to the business’ strategy
* Work with the Board to continue to evolve the KPIs used in the business to ensure that they are both measuring and optimising the operational infrastructure across the entire business
* Responsible for the identification, execution and integration of acquisitions in line with strategy with a focus on energy transition, working in partnership with the senior management team and in conjunction with the divisional team
* Drive optimal integration synergies from all acquisition activity across all parts of the business, including both above- and below-the-line synergies in line with investment plans
* Ensure that both financial reporting is to the highest standards and that monthly accounts preparation and reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner
* Ensure that the business has best in class financial systems and processes, fully aligned to support the operational and strategic development of the business
* Responsible for the integrity of all financial information reported to the senior management team and to the group
* Develop and improve financial planning, forecasting and guidance to the business
* Drive profitability through sound commercial decision making and make a strong commercial and operational contribution to the business
* Work with the sales and commercial departments to set the financial agenda of the business and play an active role in margin management and margin planning
* Support the drive for continued best in class operational efficiencies, ensuring there is a relentless focus on operational efficiency and cost control
* Engage with major suppliers on contract negotiations and lines of credit
* Responsible for the annual planning and budgeting process, which is a key driver for change and renewal in the business each year
* Responsible for cash management and operating cash flow
* Responsible for financial, regulatory, commercial and tax compliance
* Play a key role in the Compliance Committee reviewing all aspects of company compliance
* Overall responsibility for the annual audit process and management assurance
* Overall responsibility for company secretarial, payroll and pension matters
About You as the Finance Director:
*A qualified accountant with an excellent record of financial and commercial achievement in a competitive and dynamic sector
*Experience of operating at a senior level in a business of substantial scale is essential, ideally within a plc or investor environment
*Experience of commodity markets and hedging is desirable but not essential
*Strong personal presence with excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to manage the finance team, with the stature to quickly command the confidence and respect of the management team and to work collaboratively and cohesively with the senior management team and divisional executives
*Successful track record in leading, developing and motivating employees
*Very strong commercial acumen with the ability to contribute directly to the overall business strategy and work with other members of the senior management team on their functional commercial issues
*Good negotiation skills and the ability to fully understand and maximise all the components of a distribution business
*Successful change management, acquisition and business integration experience will be desirable experience including aspects such as people, systems and processes
*Understanding of sales, marketing and distribution businesses will be advantageous
*Passion, energy and commitment with high personal integrity and a practical, pragmatic and hardworking presence with the flexibility and mobility required for the role
*A strong and self-confident team player with a collaborative and facilitative leadership style
