Responsibilities:

* Develop, implement, and maintain an efficient risk-based approached to managing the Group’s compliance and control processes, keeping these processes updated and approved to account for changes to regulations or internal changes such as growth.

* Responsible for creation of the VAT returns and PSA calculations and ensuring that they are reviewed and authorised by the appropriate individuals, and then submitted to HMRC meeting strict deadlines

* Ensure VAT and PSA payments are made in line with strict deadlines

* Responsible for the completion of relevant general ledger reconciliations.

* Establish and maintain efficient processes for the logging and resolution of user queries.

* Lead the Group’s response to recovering foreign VAT in a post-Brexit world.

Training and communication

* Establish and chair the ‘ways of working’ forums with the AR, AP, P2P and Workday teams ensuring that relevant initial and update training is delivered.

* Establish and maintain training materials relating to the end-to-end processes of VAT and the PSA. E.g., users submitting and AP team reviewing supplier invoices.

* Provide training to the business on input and output VAT rules where relevant and required

Audit, reporting and control in relation to VAT and PSA

* Document and maintain accurate process notes relating to all processes.

* SAO review and implementation of suggestions.

* Act as the point of contact for all external and internal audit queries.

* Supporting the month end process where necessary.

CPD

* Maintain an excellent knowledge of VAT and PSA through continued professional development.

* Identify and escalate complex VAT and PSA issues to internal BDO experts and work with relevant teams to ensure processes and training materials are adjusted to accommodate any identified issues.

Team management

* Management and development of a single direct report the ‘G45 – Specialist – Internal VAT/PSA’.

* Conduct performance management, including annual and interim appraisals.

* Development of this individual to progress to the Assistant Manager VAT/PSA.

Process improvement in relation to VAT and PSA

* Identify process weaknesses or errors and highlight these to senior management together with proposed solutions.

* Proactively drive necessary process and reporting improvements across the Finance department which automate and add value and identify advantageous market conditions or possibilities.

* Contribute ideas to the long-term planning of the Finance department.

* Other ad hoc projects

* Review of relocation and secondment expenses for income tax compliance.

Technical Knowledge and Professional Qualifications

* Relevant ATT and/or CIT qualification or equivalent QBE.

* Sound understanding of accounting principles
