Job Description
Coventry University's 'Excellence with Impact' research strategy takes the University forward on its research journey. The strategy sees the establishment of new Research Institute and Research Centres which will provide the main mechanisms for driving the University's research agenda forward.

The Research Office operates under the leadership of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the line-management of the Director (Research). The Research Finance and Compliance Unit is responsible for financial management, accounting and funder compliance of research and income generating contracts with public sector and private sector organisations.

The Research Finance and Compliance Assistant provides the main financial processing support to the research centres and to the faculty based designated researchers. The post holder is responsible for all the project accounting and for ensuring evidence is on file to support all claims. The post holder also compiles low risk claims for review by the Assistant Accountant (Research).

The role holder will be responsible for undertaking project accounting for all portfolio projects, preparing timely claims and invoices for low-risk projects, and ensuring the evidence to support claims is in place, complete, and accurate. As well as this, they will need to inform the PI of any issues that arise from the review for claims and invoices and of any changes to key terms and conditions relating to their projects, on top of contributing to the REF submission process and any such other duties as are within the scope and spirit of the job purpose, and the title of the post.

The ideal candidate will:
*Possess an accounting qualification, A-levels or equivalent, and desirably be studying towards a CCAB qualification and have an Honours degree in a discipline relevant to one of the University's research areas
*Come from a strong accounting background with budgetary control and the ability to analyse and report on financial information
*Have experience working in the higher education sector, research or public funding, and customer service environments
*Excellent team working and self-management skills with a keen eye for detail and
*Have a high level of computer literacy, particularly Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g. ABW)
*Have a flexible approach to working hours, as well as a professional approach, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and a highly developed ability to assimilate knowledge and master new skills rapidly
