Payroll Assistant

Are you an experienced finance administrator or bookkeeper with payroll experience and looking for a new challenge?

The Diocese of Winchester is not only the people, churches and schools that make it up, but also an organisation that supports those communities and governs the Diocese. Founded in 676AD it is one of the five senior dioceses of the Church of England.

The Diocese of Winchester is seeking a Payroll Assistant to ensure the timely and accurate production of payroll across the Dioceses of Portsmouth and Winchester.

You will be responsible for all matters relating to staff payroll within the Portsmouth & Winchester Dioceses.

We are offering 21 hours per week on a 6 month fixed term contract. The role is fixed term because we will be reviewing the role responsibilities and working pattern. Once this has been done there may be a possibility of a permanent position. Hours to be worked within Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Work pattern negotiable.

Some of your duties will include;

* Operate the monthly payroll systems, keeping to strict payment deadlines

* Download HMRC tax codes and process documentation for starters and leavers, including issuing of P45s

* Calculate any deductions or additions of statutory payments and adjustments to pay including pensions

* Run payroll and double check variances to previous month and reconcile to HR records

* Once authorised, produce and check payslips, and share with employees through Myepay Window

* Support with reconciliation of all payroll related month end control accounts

* Support with preparation of the year end payroll reconciliation and staff note required for the annual audit

* To work as a member of the finance department, covering as necessary in colleagues’ absence or during periods of heavy workloads and to undertake any additional occasional duties as may be required

You need;

* Demonstrable experience of working in a payroll or finance function

* Working knowledge of Excel and experience of functions such as Vlookups.

* To be a self-starter and enabler able to motive self and team to contribute positively to the overall organisational strategies

* To be a team player with a collaborative and open working style and be able to work under pressure, flexible in attitude, organised and able to work to deadlines

* Access to own transport

We contribute 15% of basic annual salary into our pension scheme and offer 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holiday days per annum pro-rata.
