Finance Apprentice

Job description

Charterhouse is one of the great historic schools of England that occupies a magnificent site of 250 acres on the outskirts of Godalming.

The School is seeking a Finance Apprentice who will be expected to perform a wide range of technical and customer service duties, supporting the Finance team and in particular the Purchase Ledger Clerk, the Fees Administrator, and Payroll.

This role will provide the opportuntiy for the chosen candidate to gain skills and experience both in the workplace and through the completion of a course of study.

Main Work Duties

To fulfil the above tasks, you will be required to:

Processing invoices using online invoicing system and Sage 200.
Processing expense claims.
Process credit cards using Sage 200
Supporting payroll as required, such as compiling overtime payment details
Supporting fees as required, including answering parent bill queries or chasing outstanding fees.
Assisting with the preparation of fees billing with nominal ledger account reconciliation
Opening post and allocating as necessary.
Answering budget holder requests, customer and staff queries.
Administration of petty cash.
Any other tasks that the Finance Bursar feels are appropriate.

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL

A strong interest in accountancy and achieving an accountancy qualification

Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
IT skills
Attention to detail.
Team working skills.
Customer care skills.
Administrative skills.
GCSE Maths and English at grades 9-5

DESIRABLE

Experience of working in a finance department.
A-levels or equivalent

Heads of Terms

Salary Competitive and in line with industry guidelines. £19,500 per annum.

Working Hours

This is a fixed term 24-month apprenticeship. Normal working days are Monday to Friday (09:00 – 17:30), with an hour for lunch (unpaid) and one hour for study (paid) all year round. The study time will need to be agreed upfront with the Finance Bursar. A willingness to be flexible in working hours as some evening and weekend working may be required.

Working in a School environment, the jobholder is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or with whom they come into contact and are expected to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policies at all times. If,in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the Job Holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School they must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

4 weeks during probationary period (which is normally six months). Once the appointment is confirmed both parties are required to give at least 4 weeks’ notice on either side
