The Role

Business Development is one of the key drivers to the success of SSP, whether in expanding the estate via new business or enhancing our current locations organically by investigating opportunities to grow profitable sales.

The Business Development finance function provides business partnering to key BD stakeholders by providing financial forecasting, objective analysis, challenge and insight to proactively support the function.

In this highly commercial and hands on role, you will support the Senior Finance Manager (Business Development) in appraising new business opportunities, tracking capital expenditure, preparing quarterly forecasts / annual budget and undertaking post investment reviews.

Your key stakeholders will be the UK Business Development team, UK Property team & Group Finance team as well as working closely with the wider UK finance team both in our head office in Camden and shared service centre in Birmingham.

Main Responsibilities

Investment Appraisals

* Work with Senior Finance Manager & Business Development Directors to prepare and evaluate investment appraisals for new sites / business tenders / refurbishments / other new business opportunities.

* Support SFM & BD Directors at Investment Committee to present and discuss investment appraisals.

* Development of a model to allow progressive monitoring and forecasting of new investment performance for release to business which will allow early and direct implementation of plans to ensure that investments are given best chance of hitting appraisal metrics.

* Support in the preparation of Post Investment Reviews in line with local requirements as well as those diarized by Group.

Capital Forecasting & Reporting

* Support the accurate reporting of all UK capital expenditure by liaising with SSC to ensure that all major projects are correctly recorded and tracked.

* Support the recording and tracking of value adding initiatives introduced into the business.

* Support in the preparation of annual capital budget as well as quarterly forecasts.

Finance Support – Budgeting and Forecasting

* Assist SFM in the preparation of space overlay for all space changes that happen during any given financial year.

* Communicate space changes to Senior Finance Managers in the Commercial Finance function outlining the impacts of changes on quarterly forecasts & budget.

* Uploading of all space changes into Management Information System.

Key working Relationships

The position reports to the Senior Finance Manager (Business Development). The post holder will be expected to develop strong working relationships with the UK Business Development directorate, UK Property function as well as UK & Group finance departments at both the UK head office location in Camden and the shared service centre in Birmingham.

In addition to working with the teams above, there will also be a requirement to work with various stakeholders within the wider business predominantly Commercial & Operations.

Skills & knowledge

Essential:

* Bright, energetic, and highly motivated individual with ambitions to progress within the business

* Excellent Excel modelling skills. Adept at analysing and manipulating large volumes of data with the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner

* Commercially minded individual who can see the bigger picture and have the confidence to talk through analysis and pull-out key themes/insights

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work consultatively but also challenge stakeholders in constructive manner

* Determination and drive to succeed, someone who can work well under pressure

* Excellent organisational skills, meticulous and highly productive individual

* High focus on quality/strong completer finisher skills

* Enjoys and thrives in a fast paced highly commercial business environment

Desirable:

* CIMA/ ACCA /ACA finalist or part qualified accountant

* Retail/FMCG Industry Experience

* Appreciation & understanding of Investment Appraisal models would be a definite advantage
