Job Description
Our Central government client is seeking an Assistant Commercial Finance Analyst
This is a 23-month fixed term position and the role will be reporting to the Commercial Finance Manager the role of Financial Analyst is part of the wider finance function. They are a small, collaborative team working to support the delivery of the organisations strategic and operational objectives, whilst ensuring the principles of financial governance in the public sector are upheld.
The role will involve supporting and working across the business with agreed Finance and Non Finance stakeholders. The role-holder will support as necessary in activities including analysis of the B2B operating model and reporting. The role will involve work closely with colleagues across the business such as the Financial Control Unit and Project Team. The role will have exposure to corporate planning, P&L forecasting and budgeting.
Key objectives
Assist in the month end process for the directorate highlighting to managers any issues or exceptions. · Review monthly costs and ensuring robust forecasts are provided
· Ensure appropriate controls exist in the directorate to ensure robust cost management e.g. procurement process, 3rd party invoicing, accruals are provided accurately and in a timely manner.
· Support B2B teams to ensure Client invoicing is complete and accurate ensuring contract costs and overheads are recovered.
· Liaising with financial control team to provide accurate cash forecast for the month
· Ensure the integrity of the General Ledger through regular monitoring of Directorate cost centres to ensure costs are complete and to identify and resolve any errors or issues arising.
· Support the Directorates in the completion of any relevant performance measures within their Corporate and Business Unit Scorecards to ensure robust summary information is available for management decision making.
· Support and provide cover for the commercial finance analyst team
Essential qualifications
You must hold of one of the following qualifications or equivalents:
· Full qualification with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)
· Part qualified with Consultative Committee Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) or Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
· Actively studying for CCAB/CIMA qualification or equivalent qualification.
Essential experience
· Working in financial management, including experience of budget monitoring and forecasting.
· Analysing and interpreting financial information, and providing advice and options for resolution of issues arising.
· Ability to explain financial information to senior management and non-finance colleagues.
· Able to manage own workload to deliver multiple priorities within tight timescales
