Job Description
The role will be responsible for the management and financial reporting for a £3billion development project, which is the largest project this property company has delivered in its 35-year history and is one of the largest and most complex property developments ever undertaken. This is a key role within the finance team and will require the individual to take ownership and accountability for a wide range of financial and management reporting for the project and evolve them to the next level. The role will require the individual to deal with complex structures and transactions and be able to think from first principles and challenge the status quo when required. Strong accounting skills combined with commercial judgement are required for this key role combined with an ability to operate at all levels from strategic to granular and deal with multiple stakeholders.
Financial Reporting
Ownership of all aspects of the financial reporting of the project including:
Work closely with the applicable members of the finance team in the setup, understanding and execution of new ventures/projects
Understand from first principles the legal, tax and accounting structure of each venture, proposing accounting treatments and setting up the associated management and financial reporting
Documenting accounting judgements and conclusions drawn, including application of the relevant accounting standards
Prepare annual financial statements, including back up for key notes such as related party transactions, sensitivity analysis and basis of preparation
Prepare quarterly management accounts, including primary statements, supporting schedules and partner account analysis where required
Prepare quarterly Investor reporting, including a detailed analytical review and presentation of key events in the period
First point of contact for auditors across applicable entities, answering queries and providing support as requested
Challenge accounting treatments ensuring they are in line with accounting standards
Leverage off financial reporting prepared to populate tax questionnaires as required and provide any additional information required by the tax team
Work closely with the Finance Manager on the implementation of the annual financial reporting timetable, suggesting improvements and helping manage resourcing
Transactional
Provide accountability and oversight of the underlying data including:
Working closely with the finance team to control the ledgers for each entity and ensure up to date and accurate records are in place
Assist in maintaining accounting timetable across all entities
First review of key journals and sales invoices [as prepared by the Project Accountants] ahead of entry into the finance system
Quarterly update of partner current accounts for applicable entities, working closely with the Senior Financial Controller and tax team to finalise
Approve purchase orders and receipts in finance system
Review monthly bank reconciliations
Review monthly/quarterly VAT returns (and authorising payments/validating receipts)
Review monthly CIS reporting
Review monthly/quarterly inter-company reconciliation schedules
