Job Description
SF Recruitment have partnered with a business based in Ilkeston who are looking for a Part Time Assistant Accountant to work around 30 hours a week, there is also the option to work from home after the training period. This is a newly created role due to increased workload.
Role:
The business has grown in recent years and now requires an Assistant Accountant to help provide a solid backbone to the business, enabling it to improve its financial practices and performance.
The successful candidate will work closely with all members of staff joining a friendly and inspirational team.
Job Purpose:
The role will be varied and will involve a number of duties to support the Finance Manager including;
Preparation of project reports for Senior Managers to ensure they have timely financial information for decision making purposes
Preparation of financial reports and claims to a variety of funders in line with contract agreements
Assistance with the improvement of the charity's financial reporting documents and procedures
Accounting:
Using data from Xero to accurately process reports to facilitate budget tracking and variance analysis
Assist with the preparation of quarterly management accounts
Assist and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets, keeping and providing substantiating documentation to pass independent and governmental audits within current legislation
Ensure all aspects of Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger are up to date and accurate
Perform routine calculations to produce analyses and reports as requested by the Finance Manager
Assist with the preparation of the annual accounts
Provide support to the activities of independent auditors ensuring compliance issues are met
Required experience of the Assistant Accountant:
At least two years' experience of financial management and accounting at an appropriate level in a college or university, local authority or preferably charity
Familiarity with cloud-based accountancy software and ideally Xero
Ability to accurately interpret complex information and recommend sound, well-considered decisions and judgements
Proven experience of managing a varied and heavy workload with changing priorities
At least AAT qualified, part qualified CIMA, ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or qualified by experience
Proven computer literacy, particularly in excel to produce accurate, clear and timely reports
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
