Job Description
Finance Manager (Maternity Cover – 9m FTC)
Talent Accountancy & Finance are looking for an experienced, pro-active Finance Manager to cover a Maternity Leave within a multi-site business. The role reports directly into the Finance Director & has plenty of flex in terms of working hours including hybrid working & multiple potential office locations across East/North Manchester at any of the business’s sites (depending on what’s convenient for you) as well as home working being on offer.
The salary range for this role is £32k-£34.5k DOE. You would join a small close-knit team, who are looking for someone with experience preparing Management Accounts, posting month end journals & working with the transactional team to close the ledgers in a timely fashion each month.
The Role
This role is available straight away due to it being a maternity leave cover and is likely to run for 9 months from inception (although depending on the return date there is scope for this to be extended)
You’ll play an important role in Finance, sitting between the FD and the transactional team taking over the day-to-day processes & month end reporting pack, freeing the FD up to work on more strategic tasks.
Initially the mains tasks that will take precedent resolve around month end reporting and are as follows:
* Prepare management accounts in a timely & efficient manner – including reporting against budget (commentary on variances)
* Work closely with Finance Assistants to ensure month end timetable is being met so accounts and reporting meet board deadlines each month
* Month end journal postings
* Balance sheets reconciliations
Following that there are several other tasks that will fall under your remit:
* VAT returns – preparation & submission
* Supporting with the sales invoice & credit control processes as and when required
* Trend analysis & ad hoc reporting to aid decision making
* Whenever possible identify inefficiencies in processes & streamline/continually improve current ways of working
* Month end checking of transactional postings, ensuring purchase, sales & nominal ledgers posting are in the relevant codes
* Cashflow management including cashflow forecasting
* Leading the audit – 1st point of contact & involvement in preparing the audit file
* Supporting more junior staff on use of system & correct accounting treatment
The Company & Team
This business operates in the Education sector & have multiple sites in and around North & East Manchester (Tameside, Ashton, Hyde, Middleton, Rochdale).
They are well established, financially sound & have a solid Board of committed & knowledgeable trustees behind them. It’s an ambitious, driven business who have a clear direction in which they are heading but also hold work life balance in high regard as is evident in the working hours & flexibility to ensure the role works for the employees within in.
Working hours are 36 hours a week, and this is flexible (within reason). Examples are 7am-3pm through to 10am-6pm – whatever suits. Most do longer hours Mon-Thurs and a short-day Friday.
The team you’d be joining are a small, close-knit team of 5 – FD, Finance Manager & 3 Finance Assistant. You will be a key member of the team reporting directly into the Finance Director.
The Person
We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and use their initiative to problem solve to get to the desired outcome. Someone who has experience preparing monthly management accounts, posting month end journals & closing the ledgers in a timely manner.
Ideally someone that is CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified (or PQ) would be desirable but AAT qual with substantial experience will definitely also be considered – the key being there is a requirement for someone who can competently complete the work whether or not they a qualified!
Attributes we are looking for:
* CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified or PQ
* Extensive relevant experience if AAT qualified
* Solution minded problem solver
* Confident in ability to use initiative to get to desired outcomes
* Broad experience in an accounts department – potentially having been a sole company accountant so knows all aspects of Finance
* Comfortable preparing Management Accounts
* Potentially public sector/charity/NFP experience
