About us

Avencia Consulting are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Specialty Insurer in the City, who are looking to hire an Exposure Management Analyst to join on a permanent basis.

The Company currently writes lines of business including; speciality insurance: aviation & aerospace, energy, marine, property, credit & political risk, and other speciality; reinsurance: property reinsurance, property retrocession, speciality reinsurance, whole account/multi-class.

The role

The company is searching for an ambitious and diligent analyst to join its expanding Exposure Management team. The Exposure Management Analyst will have a central role in enhancing the data quality, exposure monitoring and reporting of aggregation across the underwriting portfolio. This role will also provide support to the actuarial and portfolio analytics teams, and complete ad hoc projects as required.

Key accountabilities

Effectively manage cleansing of data using in-house tools and external outsourcing resources
Assist with portfolio exposure accumulation processes and produce internal and external regulatory reports
Generate and review exposure accumulations against risk appetites
Apply appropriate methodologies to extract conclusions on both individual risks and portfolios
Communicate conclusions effectively to underwriters and actuaries
Continuously improve analysis to ensure it is at the forefront of the industry in order to maintain commercial advantage
Work with underwriters and portfolio analytics teams to ensure that analysis and reports are constantly evolving and adapting to new requirementsSkills & experience

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Mathematics, Engineering, Science or Economics
Strong intellectual and mathematical acumen, demonstrated by excellent academic results
Strong Excel skills and proven ability to develop and maintain custom VBA and SQL stored procedures
Attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and prioritize own work against needs of business
Must be a strong critical thinker who can interrogate the data to ensure it makes sense and provide challenge when required
Ability to work effectively both independently and within teams
Ability to deliver high quality work within tight deadlines and work extended hours when requiredDesirable Skills and Qualifications:

2-3 years' experience in catastrophe modeling platforms; experience of AIR and RMS software
Practical knowledge of scripting a computing language like MATLAB, Julia
Working knowledge of exposure management tools such as Exact and Sequel Impact
Design and use of data mining/machine learning techniques would be beneficial
