Axon Moore are working with a successful retailer in the search for a technically strong and confident Financial Controller who will help improve & shape their growing finance function; maintaining and implementing financial controls whilst leading and developing the finance team.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Overall responsibility for team management and activity in the transactional finance team, including the treasury team, purchase ledger, sales ledger, payment processing
Daily cash management and large transactional approvals
Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled
Oversight for day to day processing of all subsidiary company financial processes
Maintain and implement financial reporting systems to comply with regulations and legislation
Work closely with the Financial Reporting Manager to ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner, enabling an efficient monthly reporting cycle
Examine all financial reports and date closely to check for discrepancies
Collaborate with auditing partners to ensure proper compliance with all regulations
Motivate and lead finance team members by clarifying roles and providing feedback, encouragement and coaching
Responsibility for annual insurance renewals and ongoing insurance policy and vehicle fleet incidents
Lead projects focused on updates and improvements to accounting systems, including process automation
Support and participate in cross departmental projects as required
Build strong trust and relationships with key internal stakeholders
Ad-hoc analysis to support finance, senior management and the board of directors

Key requirements

Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or qualified by experience
Previous background of working within finance for a retailer
Excellent people management / leadership skills
Ability to oversee a team successfully managing big data and a high volume of transactions
Experienced in creating & maintaining robust financial controls and processes
Strong excel skills and confident with multiple systems
Keen eye for efficiencies and strong business improvement skills
Robust, confident, positive character who can articulate themselves excellently and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels
