Job Description
ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT – HAMILTON – £28-32,000 PER ANNUM – HYBRID WORKING OPTIONAL

Search Consultancy are working with a well known manufacturer in Hamilton who are looking for an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis. The role will be to support accounting aspects of the Finance function, ensuring accurate allocation of costs to sites, balance sheet control and management of retro-funded sales promotional cost.

Role Key Accountabilities

Commercial month end
Calculate accruals for discretionary marketing and range support spend
Create journals to allocate monthly marketing charges to 3 sites
Compare to budget / forecast and highlight any issues
Complete monthly / quarterly royalty returns
Calculate half-year cross-charge between sites
Business Partnering
Liaise with National Account Managers to understand changes in Range Support forecast month on month
Share information on accruals v invoicing so that NAMs have full awareness of budget available to spend
Budgeting / forecasting
Assist in the creation of budget (and any budget updates) for range support and marketing spend
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
Complete balance sheet reconciliations for "Commercial-owned" elements of the balance sheet for all Cake sites i.e. promotional accruals, royalties, over-riders, marketing accruals, rebates
Resolve any queries or errors in a timely manner
Identify risks or opportunities identified and put in place any enhancements to process as necessary
Administration and approval of retro-funded promotional costs
Monitor promotional activity, ensure invoices are valid and authorise as appropriate
Align processes across all customer accounts and embed new customers as required
Respond to invoice queries on current or historical items and assist Commercial Accountants / Credit Controllers in resolving these
Liaise with Commercial Accountants regarding retention and release of any accruals for retro funding, highlighting any issues or opportunities to the Head of Commercial Finance
Aged Debt
Monitor status of ledger as regards commercial deductions, clearing aged items where possible
Consolidate and report weekly P&L

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Relevant experience in a Finance / Accounts function
Practical experience of double-entry book-keeping
Experience of multi-site cross-charges is preferred
High degree of IT literacy, able to use multiple systems
