Job Description
Job Title: Mortgage Underwriter

Location: Remote with travel to the North Essex office once a month

Salary: Up to £33,700

Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

We are excited to be working with our client who is a well-established financial services business, who provide mortgage and savings products. They have a great opportunity for an experienced Mortgage Processor or Packager to join their business as a Mortgage Underwriter.

The successful candidate will be processing and Decisioning from AIP to Offer and completion of Mortgages including referrals from Intermediaries, Direct Customers and Mortgage Servicing Team, to include effective management of credit risk. Ensuring lending is maximised whilst maintaining the integrity of the book and security of the Company, delivering a "Best in Class" service to intermediaries and Direct applicants, ensuring SLAs are maintained and where possible exceeded.

You will be responsible for identifying and managing complaints in accordance with the Complaint Handling Policy and Procedures.

Responsibilities for the role of Mortgage Underwriter

Timely lending decisions which ensure the Mortgage Originations Team exceed agreed SLAs.
Demonstrate prudent lending decisions which assist in the achievement of a NPL ratio in line with the Company's risk appetite
Take individual responsibility to remain well informed of regulatory, legal and market trends.
Comply with all relevant Company and regulatory obligations.
Carry out any additional tasks and/or work on any additional projects as requested by the Underwriting Manager, Chief Risk Officer (CRO) or any other member of senior management or credit committee.
To actively pursue efficiencies in process to ensure the continued improvement of productivity and quality and service offered to customers referring these to the Underwriting Manager
Authorising within own approved mandate mortgage advances or preparing cases for referral to Credit Committee for approval.
Production and sign off of mortgage offer for lending within mandate once full supporting documentation is in place.
To fully document and give sound business reasons for proceeding, presenting a case to the Credit Committee where necessary.
Delivering a "Best in Class" service which includes keeping the customer informed of any delays or issues surrounding mortgage applications.
Subject Matter Expert and in particular a Specialist Underwriter for the Special and Bespoke Products that the Company offers
Managing and maintaining the integrity of the mortgage book by lending within mandates and guidelines laid out in Policy and Procedures and contributing to Company business targets by:
Speedy and accurate processing within policy and mandate
Maintenance of documentation and notes
Competent underwriting and risk assessment
Ensuring that all lending/mortgage administration and enquiries are handled in accordance with Company Policy & Procedures and the Mortgage Sourcebook.
Accurate and appropriate referrals for MIG purposes
Treating customers fairly
Supporting development in the Mortgage Originations Team
Working with the Underwriting Manager, to identify and provide coaching and training of mortgage staff in all aspects of underwriting to allow for the highest possible performance standards, including Right First Time.Experience required for the role of Mortgage Underwriter

Experience in processing and/or packaging mortgage applications
Keen interest in mortgage underwriting
Attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work to defined deadlines and meet multiple objectives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to translate regulatory rules into an understandable format for business areas
