Job Description
Job Title: Group Accountant

Job Purpose 

The Group Accountant is a key technical resource within Group Finance. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you will be accountable for a range of Group accounting activities, and will be technical lead on a number of key accounting matters. The role will provide cover for the Corporate Controller and will work alongside Holdings Accounting, Group Tax and Group Treasury. Also there will be a requirement to undertake projects for the Group Finance Director

This is a varied role that will require the balance of technical knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills to make sound strategic and operational decisions.  

You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of key group accounting initiatives and both your advanced communication skills and management style will empower and motivate the team.

Job Dimensions

Management Responsibility:

The Group Accountant is responsible for managing, overseeing and delivering Group accountancy projects and activities on behalf of the Corporate Controller or the Group Finance Director working with the Group Head Office team, subsidiary management and external advisors.

Key Accountabilities

The Group Accountant will be accountable for:

Financial Year End Reporting – oversight and review of subsidiary companies statutory financial accounts, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors as required. Ensure subsidiaries produce their statutory accounts in accordance with the published timetables. 
Technical Accounting – provide technical accounting support on current and new reporting standards, support proposed acquisitions and ventures, and impact assessments of new reporting standards.
Financial Control – manage and ensure audit management letter points are followed up and completed by each unit. Provide regular reports to Corporate Controller, Head of Internal Audit and Group Finance Director.
Credit Management – responsible for performing financial analysis and following up on customer credit requests from subsidiaries with the support of Corporate Controller and Group Finance Director. 
Projects – ownership and delivery of Group Finance projects, collaborating with Group Head office and subsidiary management whilst managing external advisors. 
Financial Risk – Support key stakeholders in the identification of strategic financial risks to ensure that Group Finance teams are working to put suitable controls and measures in place to adequately mitigate these.  
Corporate Finance Office – provide cover for the Corporate Controller.
Tax – support Group Tax to ensure Global Tax compliance during any tax investigation or assessment and review tax processes and procedures. 
Treasury- responsibility for oversight and review of hedging models, procedures, treasury transactions and counter party risk. 
Payroll – provide cover for the UK payroll services activities performed by holdings accounting team.
Governance – positively communicate governance throughout the Group ensuring compliance in all activities undertaken.
Other – to undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed by your line manager; Health & Safety – adherence to all Company Health & Safety Policies, Procedures and Safe Working Practices.Leadership, Strategy, Plan and Communications

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

•    Relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA)

•    University degree or equivalent

•    At least 5 years post qualification experience

•    Strong experience of project delivery in a Group

Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

•    A working knowledge of:

       – International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

       – Tax including International tax and Transfer Pricing

       – Treasury activities in an international group, include FX and commodities hedging

•     Experience of reporting to senior management/Board of Directors

•     Familiarity with ERP systems, and Group Consolidation Software (D365, OneStream)

Job Specific Skills:

•    Proactive, with an ability to problem solve and comprehend issues in the context of the bigger picture and business impact 

•    Ability to work efficiently in a high pressured and fast paced environment

•    Ability to prioritise workload effectively

•    IT literate proficient in MS Office software and finance packages

•    Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information
