Junior/Semi Senior Accountant

A Junior/ Semi Senior Accountant is required by a small practice firm that provides a variety of services including (but not limited to) accountancy, taxation, bookkeeping, IHT, business consultancy and HMRC enquiries. Founded on August 1, 2015 and has grown following the merger of 2 practices. The partners have experiences of over 35 years. Their aim is to provide excellent service and expertise to all their clients.

The Junior/Semi-Senior Accountant who is qualified and/or is studying towards the ACCA qualification and has had practical experience within practice.

The role will be a combination of accounts preparation and tax returns. You will be mainly responsible for preparation of clients’ accounts ranging from sole traders, partnerships and limited companies as well as completion of the tax returns. Daily and routine administration duties as listed below will also be part of this job profile.

Key Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping from client records to produce VAT Returns
Preparation of annual accounts and working papers to an excellent standard, for approval by the manager/partner overseeing the assignment
Preparation of corporation tax computations and tax returns for Limited Companies
Preparation of income tax computations for sole traders and partnerships
Assist with ad hoc accounts analysis work as and when required
Completion of self assessment returns, income & expenditure and rental accounts work for individuals and partnerships
Competent on Xero, Sage, TASBooks and/or Taxcalc (training to be provided where necessary)
Liaising with HMRC on behalf of clients
To promptly report to manager any concerns which may affect the firm’s client relationship e.g. money laundering, unethical business practice, complaints
To respect client confidentiality and report any issues which may affect client relationships to the senior/manager overseeing assignment
Office timesheets to update on a weekly basis
Ad hoc administrative duties such as answering the phone and general office duties when required

Ambitious to take on additional tasks, learn new skills and develop within the organisation
Competency/Technical skills needed:

Strong experience within an accountancy/bookkeeping environment is essential with a minimum of at least 2 years experience in practice
Excellent understanding of bookkeeping and reconciliation abilities
Excellent IT skills – Microsoft Excel, Word, Xero, Sage, TASBooks and Taxcalc would be preferable but not essential.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of accountancy standards and taxation
Payroll experience is preferred but not mandatory
Qualifications required

Qualified or currently studying towards the ACCA qualification and/or qualified by experience
English and Maths
