Job Description

Office Angels are currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant, to join our client, an Accountancy firm based in Sunderland, on a permanent contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a very well-established company.

The company is open to considering candidates with varied levels of experience, however previous experience of working in practice is essential. Part or fully AAT qualified applicants will also be considered, as well as candidates who are qualified by experience.

Location: Sunderland
Salary: £20,000 – £27,000 – depending on experience
20 days statutory holiday + 4 days holiday at Christmas + bank holidays
Auto enrolment contributory pension scheme
Flexible working hours, standard hours 9AM – 5PM, Monday – Friday
Study support and extensive learning and development opportunities. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to study for ACA/ACCA qualification via the level 7 apprenticeship if desired. The role:

Preparing accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders. Working with clients from a variety of sectors including engineering, leisure and hospitality, solicitors and charities.

Key Responsibilities:

Preparation of accounts from a variety of clients' systems – Sage, Xero, QuickBooks etc.
Preparation of corporation tax computations
Actioning queries raised by accounts and tax managers on the accounts and working papers prepared
Finalisation of the accounts following client meetings
Acting as a point of contact for clients for ad hoc queries
Assisting on audit assignments
Mentoring of junior members of the team
Preparation of management accounts and VAT returns.The ideal candidate will:

Have experience of preparation of year end accounts for owner-managed small to medium business including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
Be able to work to tight deadlines
Be driven and proactive, ensuring that our commitment to providing excellent service levels to our clients is met.
A good knowledge of accounting software packages such as Sage, QuickBooks and Xero would be advantageous
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Good organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
Keen to take on additional responsibilities
